Investors in People Champions The Landmark London is pleased to announce the promotion of one valued team member and a new appointment; Maarten Geschwindt will now take the position of Chef Patron for the Winter Garden and Gazebo, and Laura Truesdale has joined the hotel’s engineering department as their first female plumber.
Maarten has had a very successful career with The Landmark London so far. Having been at the hotel for two and a half years, he started as a Sous Chef and was promoted to Head Chef of the Winter Garden within just three months. Displaying outstanding leadership characteristics, Maarten was also a keen participant in the Landmark Development Academy – a series of workshops designed to develop Managers and future Managers at the hotel – as a part of his graduation project, Maarten presented a new concept proposal for the Winter Garden. The hotel’s management were so impressed with his proposal they supported him as he led a taskforce and became an integral player in the planning of the new concepts in the Food & Beverage department of The Landmark London.
As Chef Patron for the Winter Garden and Gazebo, Maarten’s remit is to continue to guide the food offering and – following recent investment made by the ownership – to position the Winter Garden as a world-class dining experience.
The Landmark London is pleased to welcome Laura Truesdale as a new permanent member of the team and their first female plumber.
Laura has worked at the hotel since the beginning of 2013 with a contingent position as part of the banqueting team and it was when she was speaking to The Landmark London’s Chief Engineer that her skills as a plumber were revealed and she applied for an available position on the engineering team.
Laura’s enthusiasm for the vocation started two years ago when at a friend’s house a new bathroom suite was being fitted and Laura provided some assistance. It was while she was doing this that she became interested and decided to study plumbing at Wiltshire College, going on to achieve NVQ Level 1 – Performing Engineering Operations and NVQ Level 2 – City and Guilds Diploma in Plumbing Services (QCF). When she had moved to London, Laura was introduced to The Landmark London by a member of the Mirror Bar team who she lived next door to.
Director of Human Resources Nicola Forshaw says “we are delighted to see these two team members growing professionally, both as important parts of their respective departments and the hotel’s team as a whole. At The Landmark London we strive to identify opportunities for the development of all our team members, as well as having a strong recognition and reward scheme in place to ensure that great work is acknowledged and celebrated.”
