A Night at the Opera

Red-rose-on-piano.jpg

Following the success of last year’s Opera Gala Dinner, elegant five-star hotel The Landmark London is to stage another operatic event, this time in partnership with charitable organisation Streetwise Opera - which aims to provide homeless people with a voice - on Friday 5th October 2012.

A ticketed event, the opera dinner will take place in the surrounds of the hotel’s Winter Garden restaurant underneath the eight-storey glass-roofed atrium – providing a stunning backdrop to the evening’s entertainment and fantastic acoustics for the performance.

Streetwise Opera is an award-winning charity that runs weekly workshop programmes in 11 homeless centres around the country and stages critically-acclaimed opera productions starring their homeless performers. Their mission is to provide homeless and formerly homeless people with the opportunity to participate in music making of the highest professional quality, helping them move forward in their lives, to foster their natural talents, and to promote more positive attitudes towards homeless people. In 2012 Streetwise Opera celebrates its 10th anniversary.

With each ticket sale providing a donation of 50% towards the charity, the evening will comprise a sumptuous five-course dinner interspersed with three musical interludes of 20 minutes each, featuring the exceptional talents of three leading opera singers together with a guest appearance from Streetwise Opera’s London performers. Soprano Angela Henckel, tenor Daniel Meades and baritone Robert Gildon will perform a selection of arias, duets and trios on a theme of ‘Journeys of Love’ – a voyage from Paris through Italy to Seville with works by Bizet, Mozart and others exploring love at its most passionate and dramatic, while a group of the charity’s homeless and formerly-homeless performers will present popular choruses such as ‘Toreador’ from Carmen and ‘O Sole Mio’.

Date:             Friday 5th October 2012
Time:            7:00pm
Tickets:       £95 per person (includes five course dinner and a glass of Champagne with three operatic performances and a donation towards Streetwise Opera)
